Solidmesh - Energy & Automation Solutions
Project 1
Site: Lodge in Eastern Cape South Africa
A prestigious international guest lodge, renowned for it’s luxurious facilities situated in the heart of the Tsitsikamma Forest, faced unreliable and expensive electricity that was having a negative effect on their finance and reputation. With hundreds of guests and staff depending on seamless operations, reliable and sustainable power was critical. The lodge wanted to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring energy security in a region prone to power instability.
- Solar PV Array: 314kWp ground-mounted system
- Hybrid Inverter: 150kVA
- Grid-tied Inverter: 100kW
- Battery Storage: 800kWh
- Containerised Solution: Inverters and batteries pre-installed in a shipping container for rapid on-site deployment.
- Hot Water System: Traditional geysers replaced with high-efficiency heat pumps.
- Secondary Backup: Integrated diesel generator for maximum reliability.
- Annual Solar Generation: +480MWh
To overcome and address the challenges faced, we took the following approach:
Hot Water Efficiency:
Replaced traditional geysers with heat pumps, reducing overall energy consumption with over 20% and recoding an 50kVA reduction in power demand.
Containerised Design:
All inverters and batteries installed off-site in a shipping container, allowing fast deployment on site and reducing installation time dramatically.
Energy Arbitrage:
Implemented smart controls to minimise the use of costly peak time electricity.
Hybrid Resilience:
Combined solar PV, large-scale battery storage, and a diesel generator to ensure seamless supply even during periods of high demand or extended cloudy conditions.
